During the program, students identify and examine how their personal values influence the way they make decisions and interact with others on a daily basis, while also considering SLC's five values:
1.) Honesty
2.) Integrity
3.) Diversity
4.) Social Responsibility
5.) Compassion
As students consider their values and personal ethics, they are expected to analyze and articulate how they intend to incorporate these concepts on a global and cross-cultural perspective in the future.

MY LEADERSHIP PHILOSOPHY
There are two main parts in my leadership philosophy, trust and relationship building. These two aspects work hand in hand together because trust is built through relationship and you can't have a good relationship without building trust. The main building blocks of how to built include trust, respect, reliability and independence.
RESPECT From personal experience respect is an aspect that takes time to build but can tarnish in a single action. Respect between leaders and the people below them is very important and when a leader demands respect without earning it, teams fall apart, and people will leave. Trust comes from building healthy relationships. Any relationship if that professional or personal the one most important factor is mutual respect for, without it the relationship will not last. In a global setting by accepting differences, you are quite literally respecting each other's habits, cultures, and preferences. You can respect one another's differences, even if you don’t agree with it, you can still respect each other. |
RELIABILITY & INDEPENDENCE
Reliability and independence go hand in hand because it’s important to give your employees space to work but as a leader you must be reliable and be there for when your employees need you. Giving employees space is very important, by being a helicopter leader your employees feel they have no space to think on their own. Georg had the same mentality as the leader and CEO of Crankworx. He gives his employees so much freedom. He has them create and execute their own projects and events for Crankworx. During our interview he told us he hired his employees for a reason. If you want smart individuals to work for you, give them space to flourish or they will just leave. Giving team members or employees space to problem solve and think creatively gives them a sense of value and purpose.

MY CROSS-CULTURAL VALUES
HEALTH - The most important thing in my life is keeping myself healthy so I can do all the things I want to in my free time. I love being active and participating in activities whenever I get a chance. Exercise is my main way of getting rid of stress and it also helps my mental state. Wherever I am in life I want to be able to do everything, I don't want my health to hold me back from new experiences. By being healthy it will also help me live a longer life which feeds into my next point.
FAMILY & FRIENDS - What is there to life if you don't have loved ones to enjoy it with. Spending time with family and friends is very important to me. By being healthy I will be able to do the activities I love with the people I love. Many of my relationships have started from sports or other forms of exercise. When I am not working in school or a job, you will always find me hanging out with other people. I love spending my time with friends and family, loved ones is what gives me a purpose in life. FREEDOM - I never want to be tied down to the things I don't truly love. When I enter the work force I don't want my time to be constricted where I can't do all my activities and hobbies that I enjoy so much. While this could be tough when I first start working, my goal is to get to a point where I have a flexible schedule so I can be spontaneous. This also ties back into health and family, I want the freedom to spend time on both of these other values. |
