OGANIZATIONAL LEADERSHIP IN SPORT, RECREATION & TOURISM
During this part of the program I learned about leadership, teamwork and ethics in the sports, recreation and tourism world. We learned that when leaders have to make tough decisions, it is easier when you have your values ranked and you stay true to them. Sticking to your values when faced with a tough decision will help you tremendously. Our classroom was located on the Olympic Park ground in Munich, which was exciting since we learned about the leadership and decision that go into hosting a mega sport event like the Olympics. One of my favorite excursion was visiting TSV Schliersee, a soccer club in the 10th division of the German league. We learned about what leadership looks like at a smaller level where the purpose of the organization is community centered rather than profit driven. |

CULTURAL COMPARISON & EXPECTATIONS
The culture in Munich was very similar to Reutlingen, the only main difference is that people really love to drink in Munich. There are so many beer halls that seemed to be packed through all hours of the day. I expected there to be a lot of beer but not to the extent there was. Munich is one of the biggest cities in Germany so I expected it to be in relation to the big cities in America where are skyscrapers shooting up into the sky and for there to be a tight urban area. I was wrong, there were no tall skyscrapers and the city was very spread out. It took us 45 minutes just to get to class using public transportation. The architecture was a lot prettier than I expected it to be. Lots of the buildings were very old and had beautiful architectural features which made walking around the city very pleasant.
